While NBA Rookie Class may have been on top of the ball with the breaking news of Jeremy Lamb and Perry Jones III getting assigned to the Tulsa 66ers for the semifinals of the D-League playoffs, we completely air-balled the two rookies getting recalled to the Thunder a day later.
After a one game appearance, Lamb and Jones III –who were assigned to Tulsa on April 19 –were reassigned to the Thunder, joining them as they began their playoff run against the Houston Rockets April 21. While Lamb was not a member of the rotation in Oklahoma City’s 120-91 throwdown of Houston, Jones III saw the court for five minutes, missing one shot, recording one rebound, and posting a plus-minus of -4.
Although the minutes were short, it could be a sign of things to come for Jones III, who could find himself playing larger amounts of minutes should the Thunder continue to blow out their early round opponents.
Meanwhile, Lamb may be the odd-man-out for OKC, who had shooting guards Kevin Martin and DeAndre Liggins coming off the bench in Game 1. Martin, an established player who accepted the Thunder’s role of being the sixth man this season will continue to be in the rotation pending any type of injury. Liggins may receive the nod simply due to having spent more time in the NBA (Liggins is in his second year of professional play).
